As you know, the fastest vehicle deductions are found with SUVs, crossover vehicles, and pickup trucks with gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWRs) greater than 6,000 pounds. These vehicles avoid the limitations on depreciation for luxury automobiles.1

Below, you will find some of the vehicles that qualify for the bigger deductions.

But here’s the ultimate proof. When you consider a more-than-6,000-pound GVWR vehicle, open the driver’s door and look at the metal plate or paper sticker on the door or the door frame. Make sure it shows the GVWR is more than 6,000 pounds.

(Sometimes the plate or sticker shows front and rear axles, so you have to add those two numbers together to get the gross GVWR—sometimes listed as GVW).

Here’s a list of some popular SUVs, crossover vehicles, and pickup trucks with GVWRs over 6,000 pounds.

SUVs:

  • Cadillac Escalade, GVWR 7,300 to 7,500 pounds
  • Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GVWR 7,300 to 7,800 pounds

the GVWR.
